Okay, I have a good one;it is not that original but when I heard it, I thought it was so romantic and wished I had this happen to me.
So, you take your girl out to a really nice fancy restaurant in a upper class hotel. But before you go, make sure they have one of those dessert trays that come around after dinner. Call them and ask them if they can work with you in proposing to your girl. Ask them if they can place the engagement ring on one of the desserts that you think your girl will most likely choose. When they do bring it to her, propose to her. It will be such a surprise and just so romantic that she'll never forget. And you can always have your anniversaries there. What a lucky girlfriend you have!

My youngest baby brother, and his then-longtime live-in girlfriend took a trip to Europe together one summer, probably 7 or 8 years ago.
While in one of those cities in Italy that has the canals (Florence? Venice? Milan? - can't remember which right now!), but anyway - my brother "popped the question" on a beautiful evening-time gondola ride! Could you even IMAGINE anything more ROMANTIC?!
They now own their own home, a restaurant, and have given me the two most adorable nieces on earth. Some people have ALL the luck!!!
Congratulations anyway, even if you DON'T make it onto a gondola ride! (A lake or ocean may suffice as well!)

I think the most romantic way is the traditional one.....take her out to some romantic place (sunset on a beach or horizon, fancy restaurant) and bend down on one knee. One of my friends proposed like this: they were on vacation looking for seashells, and he bent down (she thought he was looking at a shell) and pulled out his ring. SO cute....
