you can go to walmart or safeway and get some Melatonin in the vitamin/pill aisle. it is a hormone that we make naturally. start with a 1mg tablet. it should start to make you drowsy within an hour. if it doesn't work try 2 mg but don't exceed 3 mg or you may not be able to sleep. try drinking some warm milk or hot chocolate as well. eat a warm turkey sandwich, drink some chamomile tea. try getting a sound machine for your room; like ocean sounds, rain, or creeks. it will soothe your mind. you could also try taking some benedryl to help you sleep as well. though, it can be addictive, it does work. quit watching tv or doing anything on the computer for about an hour before you sleep as well. try reading, too. that always puts people to sleep

First of all let me tell u that u should never try any medicine or drug for a matter like sleep untill u r suggested by physician or it is a mental disorder:
here r some simple tips which can be followed without any extra effort n i guarentee they will work coz i too had this problem
1.First make sure that u don't sleep in the afternoon coz it is the biggest reason of sleeplessness,we require only 7 to 7.5 hrs a day to sleep n sleeping more than that disturbs our daily cycle
2. Make sure u get a peaceful atmosphere to sleep.
3. Ur body temp. while sleeping should be normal.u should not feel cold or hot.
4. Do all ur assignments the same day u r given this will make u tiered n help to sleep.
5. try to go on a walk after dinner for about 30 to 45 min
Drink hot milk one or half n hour before sleep
don't overeat while dinner
wash ur feet with luke warm water before sleep
massage feet with coconut oil before sleep
n above all never panic about this ur habit will automatically change as u grow.

Besides smoking pot lol the first rule you have got to remember is to never lay in bed when you can't sleep. YOur body needs sleep to repair itself so if you can't sleep get up and do something like read a book ,take a light short walk, anything relaxing. Drink more water. Yes. Drink more water. There is also a herb that is called Valarian. I think that's how you spell it. IF you do decide to buy it(i'm not sure where sorry) Be sure to take it a couple of hours before going to bed. And make sure you have at least 9 good hours to sleep because it was really hard for me to get up the first time I took it. Just learn how your body reacts to it. One other thing you could do is try to get 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise each day. At least 3-4 hours before going to bed. Morning is a good time so you would just get it out of the way. I could go on forever on this subject because I have a hard time sleeping too. Hope this bit of info helped.

What works like a charm (for my wife) is reading about Nietzsche, or Plato... or watching "the Matrix".
But I think that you should check your mattress. If it is crappy, make an investment and buy a good one. Remember that 1/3 of your life will be spent there!
I can see that you go under some stress (despite that you don't realize it). You stress over your inability to sleep. Instead of having to sleep as a goal, try to REST!
Close your eyes and make a mental examination of all your body, checking that each part is relaxed. Then check that you are not holding to any thoughts... let the thoughts flow.
REST

Hello Sleepless. I am really disturbed how many people have suggested you try pills. Please please don't start that. You sound like a very energetic person, what I would call someone who has a lot of charged energy, like ants in your pants!

You also have alot of thoughts when you are trying to fall asleep, this can cause the restlessness. The comfortable space you are trying to find is not found because of your restless legs and mind.

Lie on your back and start to do some slow breathing. Take the consciousness of your breath down to about six inches below your groin area (your perineum area). If you feel restless, take that restless feeling, breath into it and breath it down below your perineum. Be patient with yourself and let it work for your.

Sweet dreams.

treat this seriously. Ignore the home remedies.
Find a SLEEP CLINIC near you. Whatever it costs.

You may have one of the types of insomnia or you may have SLEEP APNEA - which would produce EXACTLY the next day results you describe. There are other possibilities, but those are the real biggies; a good sleep doctor/diagnostician could make your life a lot better, easier, in every way.

There is a world class Sleep Clinic at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. But there might be a good one near you.

1. Clear your mind of everything, picture yourself in your favorite place (ie. beach, warm breeze blowing, waves tumbling). Float with the thoughts.
2. Drink warm milk before bed.
3. (I read this one in a magazine article) Try to stay awake.
4. Read a slow paced book.
One question...you say you are "never comfortable enough". Is it possible you have restless leg syndrome? You just can't keep your legs still? They feel jittery and you keep moving them to try to get comfortable? That is a different type of problem which usually comes on at night. There is a medication for this. Ask your doctor.

I had this same issue for many years. I saw a doctor and they determined after extensive testing that I was producing more adrenalin then was normal. This was not allowing to me to relax enough to fall a sleep. Because I'm not big on presciption drugs I tried Melatonin. This is available at almost any drug store. It is produced naturally by your body but you may not have enough of it to relax or feel comfortable.

You have alot of suggestions. I cannot recommend any kind of pills - that's a little scarey to me.

When I cannot sleep, I have dranked some warm milk with dark karo syrup stirred in it. Very relaxing.

I also watch tv and that will put me to sleep also.

Say your prayers every night. Give thanks and ask God help you to fall off to a peaceful restful sleep and to bless you to wake up to another beautiful day. Clear your mind and relax.

Works for me!! It's just a matter of clearing your mind from worry and thinking too much at your quiet time.

Sleep tight! :)

I dont know yoru age so sleepy time tea at any grocery. Sleepytime pills (over the counter) work a charm.

exercise and tea is best natural oh wait Melatonin is natural and works thee best at GNC or other health food stores go this route. Melatonin is a chemical your brain makes when there is lack of light to help sleep BTW.

sweet dreams-
