She said it has been there for about 3 months and it says it slowly swells then it "pops" and it is gone. Its not full of pus or anything and when I rub it it is pretty firm. She says she will go see a Dr. but I know she will put it off. Is there any reason to be worried for her ..well like I already am...but anyone know what might be the cause? And is there any worry?

Sounds like a Ganglion cyst to me - they most commonly occur on the hands/wrists but are also found frequently on the foot or around the ankle. The cause is unknown, but it's possible that they are caused by repetitive motion.

Typically a ganglion cyst will just appear and cause a scare, but sometimes they are painful, so if your girlfriend is uncomfortable, she should see a doctor and have it drained or surgically removed. WebMD has a good section on Ganglions:

All kinds of things can grow on the feet. Corns, calluses, bunions. Depends where on the foot. None of them are serious, just a little inconvenient. Sometimes a little painful.

It's called a ganglion cyst and it can form on tendons (they will come and go). There really isn't a reason why this happens. They are not really a "serious" problem.
