Someone tells you something, and then says, don't tell anybody............When that happens to me, it's like, I can't keep it to myself, whereas, if that person, had not said, don't tell, I probably wouldn't.

I have a friend who always says this when she tells me something, but then SHE is the one who keeps talking and telling everyone. I don't have a chance to even be tempted to repeat what she told me before she has told everyone herself.

Sometimes being a good friend is knowing when not to tell - so no its not something I really hate when it happens. Just be happy they trust you enough to share that with you.

Gossip and words have created a lot of trouble and broken up a lot of relationships! If you want to be part of this, then continue with helping whoever pass you the "juicy news" to spread it. By asking you to keep it to yourself, your friend has made it sound like you his/her trusted confidante. But that is not the case. If what they tell you is meant to be a secret, why then do they tell you? So, don't help spread the "secret".

No not really, because if they say don't tell anyone, I usually respect their wishes and don't. But if they don't tell me not to say anything to anyone else then it doesn't bother me to mention it. I feel I'm pretty good at keeping secrets. There are some things that will go to my grave with me that I have never spoken a word of what someone intrusted me with.

Yeah, it sucks. Sometimes I just tell another of my trustworthy friends, or my mom, or someone else who A) won't spread it around and B) doesn't know the person anyway. Then no harm is done, and I don't feel the strange "gotta tell someone" urge.

Good one!
I went through something like that at my first job. I would say something to my "friend" and by the end of the week, someone else would ask me about it. That's how I learned that you can't trust everyone.

They tell you course they think they can trust you. They say don't tell anybody to reinforce it to make sure you know its between you and the person that has told you. not to be spread around you have to learn to have more self control

That never happens to me. I always feel priviledged when someone thinks highly of me enough to share their personal business/problems. (I am not talking about gossips here). I believe that someone should feel confident in me, that they can tell me something and it remains with me. So not to be rude but maybe you should check yourself. People should to able to tell you something and you keep your mouth!!!!

Anyone who says that has to expect word to get out eventually. If they really don't want a secret to get out, they should tell no one.
