If you have not problems with what you are doing with it, keep it ...if you seriously want to upgrade, just buy a new computer, anything less than a PIV you will have problems buying parts for and buying PV is cheaper. You can usually buy a brand new computer (depending on brand and options) for around $400-$700, and upgrade from there. PIII's if I remember right were rated at 245-400 mhz, which isn't bad, unless you want to play some of the newer games, also PIV, and PV's or their equivilant use memory a little differently which allows them to run XP and larger programs faster. Best of luck in your search, and remember to ask plenty of questions about what you are buying before you buy it ... if the peson answering ain't got a clue, go somewhere else so that you can buy with confindence and know that you are getting the best computer for your money. For a light computer user it is fine. Don't get caught up in the hype about the fastest technology. If you're not a power user you will never know the difference. If you want a nice computer spend the money on a sexy flat panel and a cordless optical mouse and keyboard. Make sure you have a lot of storage on your hard drive and at least 32 MB video card and 512 MB RAM for Windows XP.

But, the truth is an old PIV will cost the same as a PIII, so you might as well get an old PIV.

Depend on the usage. I have a PIII 500 with 256MB of Memory and a huge 10GB of hard disk. IT is running Windows XP Pro and is being used for Internet, eMail and Word Processing. For these functions, I couldn't have been happier.

If you wanted to do video rending or photo manipulation, than I would suggest a new computer with the lastest AMD Dual Core CPU with at least 1GB of memory and 120GB of hard disk. Stay away from computers that have Integrated Video Accelerators like Dell etc. Besides, a new computer will come with new warranty which is worth its weight in gold anyway.

Hope this helps. Good luck !

Yeah, the owner cheated you, my god!!! Intel Core i3 is the latest dual core with hyperthreading processor from intel and it's pretty fast., that Intel Core i3 is ranging from speed 1.2 GHz to 3.5 GHz!!! Unlike that pentium 3 xeon is only 500 MHz or less than a half of speed of slowest core i3,., so go to the shop owner and kill him lol.

It will still work provided that you are not trying to play current games. You can upgrade your ram and video, but any more than that will be difficult. Motherboards for these processors are hard to find if you want to replace that.

A computer that old is not worth upgrading, or spending any more money on it. Use it as it is for as long as you can and save up your cash for a new machine instead

Just upgrade the ram to 512 mb and dont upgrade anything else its useless.

it will run most of the programs of today except the latest games.

think, windows vista is going to release and you know whats the required configuration.
