I've been using Secret (original formula & Semi-Solid) in either Unscented (preferred, but not always available) or Powder Fresh (back-up) for over 20 years. I've never encounted problems with either clothes discoloration or darkening of my underarms. Now, there are a whole host of new scents & versions of Secret on the market these days. . . perhaps one of these are the offenders. . .

I've had both problems. I stopped using secret, now I where a natural deodorant, which works just as well. My underarms are lighter now, but still not as light as they should be. I just started using a lightening cream called Nadinola, which has hydroquinone in it, thats a skin lightener, and its helping. You can find it at your local drug store. What else is helping is that I exfoliate my underarms too. Try using St. Ives Apricot Scrub.

As far as your clothes go well try pre treating the area before you toss it in the wash.

Well. . . it didn't make my underarms dark but it did leave some discoloration on my clothes. The stain is also difficult to remove just by washing alone. It couldn't be because of my sweat because when I tried other brands, it didn't leave any stain. Because of that I never used Secret again.

I've noticed my underarms are dark and it always really annoyed me and I've used Secret my whole life. I wonder if it caused it? IF it did, will the darkening go away once you stop using it?

The toxins released when we sweat causes the discoloration. If you are sweating enough to see a stain on your shirt you should try certain dry or a stronger deodorant.
