that would be called the "smirk"......we, in texas, got to see this painful moment all the time when he was governor. We are just delighted to have "passed him off" to the nation...........our poor nation..............embarrassing for our state.............

Because a majority of the media, print and TV, are operated by liberals of the 60s and their progeny, who would rather eat dirt than have you see Pres.Bush in a good light -- so when they catch an unflattering frame, they print it.
How gorgeous do you think our movie stars would be without makeup and the "right light"? Being photographed on their good side? Having their photos "touched up."

Partly because he's worried about the fact that he's completely incompetent. Also because he gave up cocaine and alcohol but probably still needs a fix, and that pains him. I'm sure there's an additional reason which another Yahoo Answerer will enlighten us with.

My guess is because the smile is often not authentic. Most people in power will put on a show face to hide some deep pressure they're struggling with; many are quite good at hiding it. I personally don't think GW Bush is a good at it as most people, so it looks strained.

I would have a wierd smile too if my job was every single day per year 24 hrs a day and the lives of every American citizen was one my shoulders. Matter of fact I probably wouldn't be smiling.
