It seems to me it eventually bennifits my "employer" more than I, as it robs my time and what is left of my creative energy.

what the hell kind of DVD's do you get that could classify them in the car/boat category????

and yeah, you're spending your time making your employer rich. that's the fundamentals of "work". point is, keeping your own goals in mind while you work lets you get where you want to go, not where you are lead to. if you're in the working rut and seeing nothing surfacing, move alone. find something that you think might suit you better and go for it. just don't tell you boss about it,

You need to refocus your energy on something that suits you in this life. Find your passion - the thing that you keep pushing aside so that you can do this current job. What is the reason you deny yourself something else, something better suited for you? That something is a position where it's a privledge and a joy to work long hours because it's more of a hobby and more perfect for who you are supposed to be in this life. Instead of asking what someone else is getting out of your hard work and long hours - rephrase it and ask yourself what you are giving up everyday to chase something that you don't really want. The people on top are there because for them the company is their passion - that is why they are on top and your are not. Find your thing and chase it - then you will benefit as well. Stop being afraid and get a plan together and make a change for yourself. Don't blame successful people because they found their passion, worked hard, and make it look easy. You can have that as well - just in a different direction.

Best Wishes,
Genie

Well if you work as hard as you can and make each day a learning lesson you will benefit. Although it will seen as though the Employer will benefit, you can gain the knowledge to an emolyer some day. Stop some day and ask your employer what they did to get where they are and watch the respect, not to mention the free advice, you get.

It isn't worth any of that if the job is demeaning as so many are. They aren't worth the ulcers and being chewed up everyday by bumpkin supervisors. People get caught in a trap and think they need status. They have to keep up with neighbors and relatives and believe that is what life is about.

It does of course depend on what a person values. It can come down to power and prestige vs time and family. It is by now an old saying, but no one ever said on their death bed that they wish they had spent more time at the office. Maybe you need to spend sometime drawing back and determining what is important to you.

It's not worth it except to keep you from living in that part of town where you get shot at daily. It's the strive for "something better" that should be the goal, not a boat.

I think a lot of people work so much in order to gain higher social status...the more things that they have the bigger their ego can be.
