In many of my cases it has been bad battery terminals. Some dont look bad however they can get air pockets or crevices down on the inside contact surfaces with the batter post of side connectors also. After it cools or sits I assume it may start again. That would lead me to disconnect the ground wire first then the positive. Keep them apart and away from the battery terminals. You dont want to cross them casing sparks. One at a time inspect the lead terminals on the battery. Most likely not bad but the side mount ones can get messed up threads and not produce a solid contact. If bad replace. Otherwise us a terminal cleaning wire brush or some fine grit sandpaper. Smooth all surfaces and with a clean cloth remove any dirt dust or grease from all surfaces. The cable ends must not be chewed up to bad and have a good set of bolt/nuts to effectively tighten the cable end around the post. Same thing, sand paper or the wire brush clean the cable ends. Smooth and shinny is how they should appear. Make sure the cable ends are wide open and place the negative one back on the proper post. Make sure that it slides down firmly and makes complete contact. When you tighten the bolt make sure the end does not ride up off the terminal or go on crooked. Tighten securely but dont strip the bolts. The battery terminal should, but does not have to, be slightly above the cable end as you push it down and tighten it. There should be no gaps in the mating surfaces. Complete both terminals like this and see what happens. ALWAYS USE EYE PROTECTION

Not a lot to go on, not knowing the year, model, and engine type, but it sounds like it could be a fuel problem, perhaps the fuel pump or filter. Have you checked to see if all cylinders are firing (assuming this is a gasoline engine) when the car is not starting?

FUEL FILTER... or fuel pump....
those are the mostly likely culprits for what you are describing.
It could be something else, but it sure sounds like a fuel related problem.
