I live in a bad area because I am poor. I work hard but I am on commission and cannot afford to live in the Village. Should I just jump in since every place is expensive since I may get paid soon a commission or should I fight to stay and not sublease my place even though I could use the money for a better place but more expensive.

I worked in a commission-only job for a year and a half, and I'm here to tell you this:

It will destroy your life.

Get out of the job. Get out of it now.

The amount of time you spend trying to make a sale, compared to what little money you make, is ridiculous. You'll make better money flipping burgers.

Don't be afraid to take a job you feel is beneath you. Working and actually getting paid is a hell of a lot better than working and not getting paid (which is what commission-only sales is).

If you cannot find a job that pays well enough for you to support yourself, you need to leave New York City immediately.

As you are well aware, the cost of living there is absurd.

If necessary, you may have to go back to school and get your Bachelor's or Master's degree, so you can get a better job.

Don't try to "stick it out" in the commission-only job. You'll only end up in deeper debt and you will be ruined, financially.

In fact, get out of sales totally. Unless you are truly good at it immediately, you should not be doing it.

You do know the 80/20 rule, right? It means that 80% of the money made in sales is made by only 20% of the salesmen. This means you only have a 20% chance of being able to support yourself in sales.

Instead, get a job that pays a guaranteed salary. You are 100% guaranteed you will be able to support yourself and count on the income.

So, get out of sales and get a salaried job. If you can't find one to pay your bills, move out of NYC and live somewhere else that is cheaper.

Good luck!

Why the village in particular?
If you have limited income, you have answered your own question, but you should aspire to get out of your bad neighborhood period!
