I am reading a series of books written by the same author who's main characters are in all of them, and each book just sort of picks up where the other left off. Anyways, some of the characters in them are gay and at one point the main character makes a statement that he is always the giver and never the receiver. Forgive my ignorance here and I mean not to offend anyone, but I guess I always just thought that if you were gay that you were sort of both the giver and the receiver. In any case, please help me to understand a little more if your so inclined to.
Thank you!!

let me break this into an easy explanation:

TOPS: These are man who only like to penetrate other man...usually they love the passive (or receiver) to have oral sex with them before penetration....usually tops prefer to get man who have a smaller penis then them...this is especially true with latino and latino sex

BOTTOM: These men typically enjoy being the receiver, they love to get fingered first...and then wait for penetration....pretty much every movement preformed by a girl to guy action can be done with a guy to guy penetration

Verstaile: These are men who like it both ways....I really believe that a large percentage of man are like this

Oral sex...not always practiced by a homosexual either a top or bottom: yes sometimes there are gay men who could be tops or even bottoms who don't like oral sex....weird a gay guy who doesn't love to suck a large penis...weird but this is a little more common then one might think.....I had a guy who only loved to have me penetrate him without him giving me oral...

The size of the penis many times determines who will be the giver (top) or the bottom (receiver): when I'm with men who have a smaller penis I usually love to penetrate them....but when the guy has a much bigger penis then I...i feel i have to be the bottom

The reply I feel you're watching for is yes. A man can get an erection with out testicles. The Penis is sort of a sponge that soaks up blood that causes the erection. The testicles are the producers of sperm that is made everyday after which deposited into the drift durning intercorse. There's a drug within the brain known as nitric oxide which releases the manage on the bloodflow to the penis inflicting it to fill and come to be gorged with blood. How do erections work? When a male is sexually aroused, nerves to the penis intent a sequence of chemical changes that finally result in dilation (widening) of the arteries (blood vessels) providing it. As these vessels dilate, more blood is in a position to enter the penis. This explanations the penis to elongate and harden as it turns into engorged with blood. Because the penis turns into erect, the veins that drain the blood out of the penis are compressed. The end result is more blood is coming into the penis than is leaving it, thus it becomes erect. As soon as ejaculation takes place, the arteries to the penis turn out to be much less dilated. This leads to a scale back in the amount of blood entering the penis. The penis then becomes much less erect, the veins that drain the blood are now not compressed, extra blood leaves the penis than enters it, and it turns into flaccid. Chemical explanations of Erection An erection starts offevolved with arousal. The brain detects the physique fitting sexually aroused and transmits a message alongside the NANC neuron to tell the physique to growing an erection. NANC stands of nonadrenergic, noncholinergic and uses nitric oxide to transmit the message. Once the nitric oxide reaches the neurovascular nerve bundles that hug the prostate gland, an enzyme known as guanosine cyclase is launched. An enzyme is like a biological catalyst; it's a exceptionally folded protein that matches most effective into one substrate, like a key matches into only one lock. A substrate is the compound that the enzyme will change.

The terms 'giver' and 'receiver' in the context of gay men refer to anal penetration during intercourse. A 'giver' is the man who penetrates during sex while a 'receiver' is the man who gets penetrated.

Another more common slang term for 'giver' is 'top' and for 'receiver' is 'bottom'. There's also 'pitcher' and 'catcher' respectively.

Any answers here which mention aggressiveness, passivity, penis size, characteristics of men who prefer being penetrated (receiver) or the characteristics of men who prefer doing the penetrating (giver)... those are opinions based on individual experiences and do not apply to all Gay Men.

This character is probably referring to anal sex, and as always the the giver, he's a top, the aggressor of the couple. There are guys who are always, or mostly top, or always or mostly bottom (receiver). Most guys are versatile. (that means will do both)

There are alot of psy and phy reasons for both answers. Guys like to have their prostates stimulated. If your prostate is low, the added excitement from being done can make you mostly a bottom. If it is not that low and you get off more on being a top.... Well that is another feeling. Basically, guys can be both, but can prefer one over the other depending on where it feels best. I like both. But I have known guys on each side of the table.
