A solution is a type of mixture in which the component parts are dispersed at the molecular level, and macoscopic properies of the components are not separately observable. An oil-water emulsion is a mixture since at sufficient magnification you can see the componets as they exist speparately. You cannot do the same for a solution of sugar and water. While solution is generally applied to something mixed in liquid, it can also be applied to solids. A metallic alloy is often considered as one metal dissolved (placed into solution) into another.

A solution comes from diluting solutes in a liquid - like salt and water. A mixture is just a mixing of things together. Liquid may or may not be involved.

I learned this last year in 7th grade. A mixture is two or more substances that is just mixed together, but it doesn't form one substance. A solution does and is of one color usually, unlike a mixture where it can be two or more colors and textures.
