Yes I think America is dumbing down. I used to get in trouble in school for not socializing and not always being a smiling idiot. I even got sent to the school shrink for reading books that were "too above my reading level" and because I didn't smile and talk all the time like the other children, I preferred to read and do my work instead of socalize.

Take a look at the kind of math tests that the children were given in the 50's compared to today.

I don't think the USA is dumbing down even if GWB got in office twice. I really think he cheated to get there and was smart enough to getaway with it.

Most southern people look, act and sound dumb but are some of the smartest people you could ever meet. I would say we are playing the game and when it is time we make our moves.

But damn you are right about some the people on yahoo answers.. Where did they come from.. I never meet that many in my every day life on the streets.. Must be a dumb town some where in America. I wonder if they have a village idiot?

Yes.....and no. Knowledge is power, and if people look at this as a way of gaining knowledge (even if it is in the form of a "dumb" question), then it can only help to make the world a smarter place.

It is really all how you look at it.....glass half full? Or half empty?

yes. i think americans are opportunists. they are dumbing down because they're being allowed to do so. the standards of education and work ethic are being lowered, and there a million and one diseases and disorders out there that give a person every reason to act the part of being incapable of meeting a higher standard.

I don't think America is dumbing down as you say...But definitely there seem to be a lot more people practicing ignorance. It's planned that way. Mind control.

I don't think so. I think the dumb have just been given a venue and a voice in the Information Age. And it's not just in the Americas...it's all over the world.

I personally believe that it is the public schools fault that Americans are not reaching there potential... If the school system allowed students to choose which school they went to there would be more competition between them thus having better schools, grades, and individuals!
