Rainbows are a good symbol of diversity, because they contain different colors but they blend into each other.
Hey, that's just like people can be different and still live together! Isn't that neat?

The rainbow flag, sometimes called 'the freedom flag', has been used as a symbol of gay and lesbian pride since the 1970s and was first used to symbolize gay pride and diversity by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker.
The rainbow flag is symbol of diversity and it is not ONLY used by the GLBT culture. The use of 'rainbow' flags has a long tradition; they are displayed in many cultures around the world as a sign of diversity and inclusiveness, of hope and of yearning. This denotation goes back to the rainbow as a symbolic promise, and the use of all the colors of the rainbow symbolises all flags in one.
There are several, unrelated rainbow flags in use today. The rainbow flag representing gay pride just happens to be the most widely recognized. The 'rainbow' peace flag is especially popular in Italy. There are also other, less well known 'rainbow' flags of a similar design, used for different purposes.
The colors in the current GLBT rainbow flag have the following meanings:
red - life
orange - healing
yellow - sunlight
green - nature
blue - serenity
violet - spirit

Did you know that Noah slept with his daughters-in-law and didn't wear a stitch of clothing? I suggest you read the original version of the story of Noah.

As a gay male, I have often wondered why this symbol was adopted by the community at large. Nobody has been able to give me an answer.
But I don't think I would cringe seeing it as a bumper sticker on somebody's car---or any bumper sticker, for that matter. It is just personal preference and expression.

it's a symbol of our diversity (ditto everything that Everybody Still Loves Chris wrote). no one hijacked it, no one stole it, no one owns it, gays aren't the only people who like/use rainbows.
get a life and get over yourself. since when do you own the rainbow?

We'll give it back once we are done with it. Wow, didn't know a rainbow was owned by anyone.

It's not just the rainbow that makes the hets angry. Gay people also celebrate sex, while the hets try to make it dark and dirty.

Why do you presist in coming into the LGBT section to pick a fight? God told you that he loves all his children, and he instructed you not to judge.
