i just want to elaborate on a little bit of it

the SP can play gbc/gb games, it's the DS that can't play gb/gbc games.

a lot of gb/gbc/gba games have batteries in them that can die in a relatively short amount of time, if you turn the game off and on a lot. and i mean a LOT a lot. so you dont' need to worry if you are burning out your battery.

also, as you age, there will be other handheld systems. i still have my old gameboys, well, only 2 of my original 5, and they all still work, even though they're all about 12-7 years old, but i only play my DS and my GBA as far as handhelds go (i don't like holding my DS(lite) for gba games, it feels weird. and Lite doesn't let GBA games go all the way in, the way the DS does.)

The battery will eventually die, and the backlight may as well. However, the battery is replaceable and the backlight shouldn't go out for many, many years.

More importantly, you'll most likely still be able to play the games on whatever Nintendo's current handheld system is at the time. The Nintendo DS can play GBA games (no idea if it'll play old GB or GBC games, as I've nevered tried), and the GBA can play old GameBoy games from over a decade ago.

So the answer is "no", a GBA SP will probably not last your whole life unless you're only planning to live another ~10 years. However, it will last a *very* long time in terms of electronic hardware life, and the games will last even longer than that.

It should last quite long time if you do not drop it or let it get wet. in 10 years the latest hand held game thingy will play all the retro games you used to play just like the old atari games now.

yes, it can. just buy a ton of internal batteries and led bulbs now, and learn to replace them properly. then call ben heckendorn if you get in a jam.
