Hmmm....I don't know of a medical term or condition that relates to what you have said. But my father also had a stroke. Medical science does not know everything when it comes to stroke victims. A lot of times there is more damage to parts of the brain that control behavior than a doctor can tell us. My father also changed significantly after his stroke. I would be MORE patient with him than being hasty to label his behavior. It sounds like you might have some bitterness against your father. I don't know of course....but from what you typed it seems so. Maybe even your mother does too. Don't you think he needs you now more than ever? Perfect opportunity to be the bigger person...and forgive. A stroke takes away SO MUCH from a person. It also depends on the severity of his stroke. You may find out that your father is living in a very lonely world if you would...just...look...closer. He most likely needs you to reach out to him.

What is 'PHD question'. Was he in the army? I would say he is an anger addict. His mind is damaged and he hasn't the intellectual ability nor judgment to be self aware of his own actions and their negative values, their consequences, the harm they cause and the missed opportunities and the destroyed goodness. Most certainly his was not given opportunity for access to that kind of training and knowledge. He is a sadist who believes he is doing right, that he has justification and sound theory, science. I am sorry to say there are more people like him, but not many. He is rationalizing his actions so he may believe they are doing good for you, making you something of his idealization according to this belief, but of course you see the circular insanity in that. He has lost touch with, or has had destroyed in him, something of the totality of his human essence, love, and exists now only as a memory. Such people are also paranoid and ego centric, self doubt is too painful to allow them to question and search out for superior wisdom. I wonder if his father was the same way or if he fell into the hands of a sadist.

I don't know the term; but I can tell you he won't change. The only thing you can do for yourself if accept him as he is. Then when the time is right, you can tell him honestly how much he's hurt you and give him a chance to think about it while he's still here in this life. He's still your father; ;I guess that is enough reason to respect him. You'll do yourself a world of good getting all of those things off of your heart before he dies.

Your father is a bully who never was able to "measure up" in his own eyes . Now that he feels physically less than adequate , he
must think his verbal abuse will still make him appear "macho". He is probably withdrawing into his war films , so he doesn't have to deal with the effects of his stroke . Your mother should speak to his doctor and get him physical therapy and counseling .

if he was a veteran call the va and ask them to come get him.
go buy your own place and take you mother with you, maybe he'll get the message.
give him the name and number of a psychiatrist and make his appointment for him.
take him to a nursing home and drop him off.
or finally just tell what you said here and ask for his committment for improvement.

Let him help himself, if everything you do is wrong by him that's not gonna change. Let him be and when he starts starving cause no one helps him anymore he will realize the error of his ways.
