From experience, it sounds like a good old fashion jock itch. You can but sprays at the drugstore that should clear it up in a couple of days. If it gets worse, see your doctor as it could be something worse, but I doubt it......

No, it's not an STD.
It's most likely "jock itch."
Go to a drug store and buy him a spray for it (there are several brands like Tinactin etc.) and make sure he puts it on twice a day. After showering, dry the area well and spray it on there real good.
It's caused by too much friction in the area, or heavy sweating, sometimes can come from poor hygiene in summer time.
I had it once and it was the result of me using spray deodorant down there. It irritated the area and turned into jock itch.
I now use baby power after showering in the groin area and have not had a problem since. I recommend telling him to use baby powder in the future to stay dry, because the most common cause of it is from sweating and the area being moist all day.

It could be a fungus, a heat rash, or just chafing. Poison ivy is another possibility, but I think it would look different if it was that. It is also possible that it's an STD. Better ask a doctor about it to be sure. Good luck!

This happens to my husband too sometimes. It's usually not itchy though. It usually happens when he's working outside and is sweating a lot. A little bit of baby powder works wonders, before or after.

My husband had something that sounds exactly like you've described. The doctor said it was a bacteria and gave him some cream to make it go away.

Goldbond powder should help it feel better. He is probably sweating and his underwear or jeans are rubbing while he is working. It has happened to my husband before in hot weather.
Have him hang out in shorts or boxers all weekend and keep it very clean and dry....use the Goldbond powder.
If it does not clear up...see the doc.
