I had visited the World Trade Center. I'm not sure how many years it was before 9/11, but I still have the ticket from that day.

My last vist there was during easter 2000. My last time in New York City. It's funny how much more I appreciate being up there now. As far as what it was like, anyone who has ever been up on an observation deck of a tall building knows what it's like. The view of the traditional city streets with people who look like ants. Cars and cabs making their way through intersections - traffic jams. Staring out over the bridges, the docks etc.
But knowing now, that for the time being other people can't go up there, can't experience it, makes me sad. It's like learning that something you grew up with or took for granted has now become extinct.
