My boyfriend is a Marine..he told me today that he has something to give to me and my parents(more for me though) and he ended up telling me that it was a folded American flag with his dog tags drapped over the flag and this was put in a wooden glass case...i think that is amazing...he told me he was going to give it to my parents, because he has something more personal..more meaningful to give to me...whats the significance of all this? :)

Consider it an extreme honor to be receiving these items.

Unless things have changed sense I was in the Corp(1967-1970)
The folded flag is given after a service mans funeral.
The dog tags can or can not be given with the flag, depends on the situation.
Is he about to be shipped over seas? IF so may be his way of saying he might not make it back. Gave my wife my extra set of dog tags before I left for Viet Nam.

I was a military wife for 10 years... I was told by my husband that the dog tags are used for identification when a soldier is killed. They put the small chain on the soldier's big toe. They put the other one around the neck and put the the tag in between his front teeth and close his mouth shut. I know this sounds gruesome, but for him to give you these things means that he might be going off to war and he is probably worried about not coming back.... He may want to marry you before he leaves...
If you love him, I would do it....
God bless you both.
I also believe he really loves you and respects your parents...

He is saying that he cares for you deeply. Given that he may be traveling into danger, the tags and flag also reflect that he has accepted that he may not return. It would not be a surprise if the more meaningful thing that he will give you would be a ring.

You should feel honored for him to do that. Thats very special. I have my husband's dog tags that he gave me before we got married. He has passed away and I also have the flag that draped his casket. Not quite the same as your's but means alot just the same. It sounds to me like he is getting ready to give you a ring. Good luck.........
