I have heard many a story where an elderly female gets her snatched purse back; they are feisty and I guess they figure they'll only lose a short while if the damned thief kills em. I think walmart greeter is a great job to keep elderly active, productive and happy. They are so sweet!

They are there to greet people,if someone comes in to return something they make sure they go straight to the return desk not through the store. They are there also to help direct people to a certain department. Not all of them are elderly but most are it's an easy job for those who want to work part time.

For a second I thought you were a Wal-Mart basher and I was going to let you have a lashing, but you asked an honest question! The reason for the welcomers is because Wal-Mart cares! Not only do elderly get jobs but so do disabled and other unemployable people! Wal-Mart shares it's wealth with the community!

Lol! now that u mentioned it ur right! hmm.. thats weird how Wal-Mart has the elderly at the front of the store! lol...Hmm...i guess you would have to call Wal-Mart to get a real answer. no one on Yahoo! answers could give u a real answer about this! But it is funny how theres an old person at the front of the store and old ppl wouldnt stand a chance against a robber! (no offence to old ppl)

Walmart is just trying to be a community friend by helping out those who want to work, but do ont have to capacity to lift or type or stock. They are just there as decoration and a friendly hello. They are not there to stop anything or anyone.

They're greeters. And WalMart only pays the federal minimum wage, which is $5.15/hour. And none of them works full-time (the vast majority of WalMart workers don't work full-time), so they don't have to pay any benefits.

The reason for the elderly is because they do need jobs
and so they welcome you like a grandmother or grandfather
to make you feel welcome in the store

I understand what you are saying
But a rush in rob job could in fact knock anyone down
no matter what age,

thanks for caring

I know what you are saying, which is true. Not many places hire elderly people, so I think it's great that Wal-Mart does this.

They aren't there as security people. They're greeters -- supposed to welcome every shopper as they come through the door. Walmart's way of saying they help out the community by hiring people of an age that no one else wants to hire.

I thought they were there to greet you and say good-bye to you. I always thougt that....I mean stealing from them would be no fun because there would be no chase. You gotta make a buck some where! (how would you apply for that position anyways?)
