what's the big deal with football anyway?

I can't think of anything on earth more boring than football!
I'm serious. I'm not just trying to be controversial here.
I honestly think football is the most boring thing in the world.
I can't understand why people care so much about a bunch of grown men running around in tights and big shoulder pads, running into each other. It is pointless!
It just seems like so much of a waste of time and money.

P.S.
I'm a student at Penn State. That's why I asked this question. Because everyone else here at Penn State is obsessed with football. But I really couldn't care less!

Sorry. I just realized that I came across as kind of a jerk in my question. I don't mean to insult people who do like football. I just want to know why people like it so much? How could there be such different reactions to something like football?

If you had ever played it you would understand,it's hard to exlpain to someone who has never played but it teaches kids how to deal w/each other and also teaches discipline and respect and also keeps their time used up so alot of kids that would be into drugs or worse do not take that path then it just grows from there some grow to love it and some don't it's a matter of taste,I am a coach for middle school and if you could see these kids faces if they were told they could not play it would completely break their hearts and for the guy that says it's gay he is obviously a homophobe.

this is like completely American! i'm able to watch a interest for greater or less 40 5 minuites, then i'm getting a touch bored. except this is a collection that i like a good purchase, then i'm able to watch the completed element. in spite of the shown fact that it is relaxing to computer screen it with acquaintances. Have each and every sort of nutrition and beverages, doin physique-slams while somethin sturdy occurs, and trowin stuff on the television while undesirable stuff occurs. And while U have a victory, get up and scream. (that still works once you lose too) ;-)

Comedy. I think there is some hidden stuff behind that question and some of the responses, too. Jeeze.

Football is cool, because it is a game of strategy that relies on strength, athletic skill, and abilities. The gay uniforms that were pointed out are actually ideal for easy movement. The game is even more enjoyable to watch when you are in a fantasy football league. Stats from around the league become more important and meaningful.

I may add more to this later, if I decide I care, but I think this is a good start.

For most people, it's the game atmosphere, the thrill of the experience, the adrenaline rush.

For a player like myself, it's about going out each week and proving to the world that we are the best, that we cannot be stopped, it's the same with Rugby (Which I also play) it's a huge rush to go out there, and hit someone as hard as you can. It's really a lot of fun.

I never used to like football, until I tried playing it. You get a lot more respect for something by walking a mile in their shoes, you should try it sometime.

Not everyone likes football and some don't like sports in general and that's alright by me. Personally I love it as it's exciting and skillful. Maybe you like other things that I would not care for or find boring.

Yeah but if you were a big guy, and frustrated, what could be better? The other side of it is the gambling aspect. An equally dumb game is rugby, same as US football except they pass the ball backwards and don't have all that daft safety gear.

There's no Accounting for taste, even though you are not trying to be offensive to football in your case, sports, regardless of which one it is a test of physical strength and endurance and strategical intelligence. If you don't like Football In particular, don't watch it, there isn't much your going to be able to do to stop it from keep going on, so all you can do is either ignore it, wether you know it, like it or not, part of your tuition goes to sports programs, and even if you don't like football, you are still supporting it. OR.... go to a school that does not have a football program.

I think that way about any other sport . i hate baseball and basketball and golf and all the rest . I think that i like football becouse u get to see them hurt each other and with the other games they dont do much of that. but it is all diffrent for us all . not everyone is going to like all sports. or any at all. but u have to think about it if u could play ball wouldnt u like the pay checks to? It a lot better than having to watch all the boring shows that r on on sunday. u have to give it that .
