So my car is a 93 Subaru Impreza with a manual transmission (don't know if that's important). It started making this weird clicking sound two days ago. I'm not a car person at all and the best way I can describe the noise is cards in the spokes of a bike. It seems to be connected with my RPMs - it's faster whenever I start the car or accelerate. I looked under the hood with it running and looking at it from the front of the car it seems to be coming from the left side near the silver tube things.

I've tried looking it up and have seen things about "pinking" but that seems to be related to gas and I've been using the same gas for five years. The day the noise started a friend of mine stalled the car (it was pretty loud) but I stalled that car plenty when I was learning to drive. Plus it started for me fine right after that - it was the next time that the noise started.

Lots of info but hopefully it gets me an answer. I'm hoping this may be inexpensive to fix. PLEASE help!

hi there, its hard sometimes trying to diagnose a veh.when you can't hear or see it but,i ran into a veh with same like symptoms.due too high mileage and not keeping up with oil changes or both, etc.the lifters inside the heads start making a tapping sound and increases with rpm.you'll need to take it to an auto shop and then find which lifter is at fault.once that is done you've probably spent no more than 200.00 dollars depends on how much the shop charges an hour it's usually 1- 1 1/2 per hour for diagnosing a veh...but first have you check your oil?. lol..good luck with your veh.

It could be a number of things. It honestly sounds like a bad belt (sometimes belts on your car just wear out..perfectly normal and very inexpensive...lol sometimes.) Or it could be a compressor or etc. etc. The best thing to do is take it to a mechanic and just tell them what its doing and ask them to estimate how much it is going to take to fix it and exactly what the problem is. Sometimes if they tell you what is wrong and say it needs a part its cheaper to buy the part yourself and then ask them to put it on. Good Luck. Hope that helps
