The SEC is the toughest conference which is why they won't win the National Championship, there are simply too many good teams that play each other, unlike the Big 10 and PAC 10 there there are only one or two good teams per conference, so it would be easier for them to go undefeated.

I agree the SEC is the toughest conference. Which other conference has six teams like Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, and Alabama? You might throw South Carolina into the top group also if they continue to improve. The Big 10 has great football and probably comes closest to the SEC but at most five teams are of the same caliber as the six mentioned in the SEC. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, and possibly Wisconsin could be considered top teams nationally. Every year the SEC is a bruising competition among 6 really good teams. I don't think anybody besides Iowa will be able to stay with Ohio State this year (just my humble opinion).

The problem with the SEC is that the top teams beat up on one another and it is very difficult to remain undeated in the conference. Is it the toughest? Year-in and year-out I would say so because it is smash mouth football with hard hitting defenses.
Forget the beginning of the year hype, look at the last year-end standings for the past 40 years and see how many SEC teams are in the top twenty.
Yes, they usually schedule easier opponents outside the conference so as to tune up for SEC play and try to remain healthy.
As far as the PAC-10, a lot of hype but mostly no-shows at year-end when it comes to the top 20. When was the last time at year-end the PAC-10 had 5 or 6 teams in the top 20 with 3 or 4 in the top 10. I cannot remember that ever happening, but it has happened with the SEC.
Don't believe it? Remember when the SEC was trying to get Florida State to join the SEC. What was Bobby Bowden's response? We'll join if we don't have to play Alabama and Auburn every year. What a candy a**!

If you put Ohio State, Michigan or Iowa in either the ACC or the SEC they most likely would lose at least a few games every year because there are not too many cupcakes in these conferences. Teams that could beat you on a given day include Alabama, Auburn LSU, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Miami, Boston College, Florida, and Tennessee.

The SEC isn't the toughest conference anymore, in fact they haven't been since 2000. PAC 10 Baby

If you are trying to compare the number of National Championships it's a rout The PAC 10 has way more than the SEC.

UK sux, Ole Miss sux, Miss State sux, Arkansas sux, Florida overrated and sux, LSU one hit wonder sux, UGA sux, Alabama who, Auburn is the school still open, South Carolina i thought they were back in the ACC, sux. Tennessee is the only decent school in the conference. The rest of the teams duck playing quality teams outside of their conference.

Its out of them and the big 10(incuding ND)

Thats the problem
though these two confernces are to stronge
they beat each other up and thier teams don't get to the Championship

instead teams with easy schedules (Pac 10 and Big 12) get into the BCS

unless u would rather brag about your conference being the best rather than your team being the best

it terms of both the quality of the teams AND the toughness & atmosphere of the venues to play in, the SEC is the best. All but two of the schools live for football season.
