My husband has been under a great deal of stress-more than I ever dreamed. Just the other night, he didn't come home from work. His cell phone was turned off and I couldn't reach, or find, him. He called me over four hours after he was supposed to get home. He was crying and asking me to call 911 because he had slit his wrist. He's home from the hospital now, on meds, and scheduled for counseling. How do I know if things are okay with him in the future? I am really worried about him. I love him with all of my heart. I myself suffer from depression, but have never attempted to take my own life.

You won't know if things are alright, but you can hope. Participate in his care as much as he will allow. Watch for early warning signs. Help him feel like a man. Help him figure out a way to lower his demands and obligations, even if it means giving up some luxuries.

No, but I had him threaten to once, it made me feel strange on the inside. I honestly thought that there was something wrong with him. but I have felt like that before and he did nothing to make me feel better at all. Just be as supportive as you can and when he is ready sit down and find out what was bothering him that much that he would try to commit suicide.

Thats a scary situation, just make sure he continues to go to counciling and talk to him as much and as oftenas possible about how he feels and make sure he knows you are there for him no matter what. Check up on him and call him during the day to make sure he is ok. Good Luck to you guys.
