That is exactly what happened to me. Married 20 years, decided to divorce, wasn't sure why, just felt unhappy in the marriage. AFTER I left the marriage, then I was able to accurately see who I had been married to all that time. Being 19 when I got married, I guess I was just too young to understand what I was getting myself into.

You didn't know him when you got married did you, at least not that well. Over the years everyone changes. That is the fun of marriage to learn about the person on a daily basis.
There are days mine surprises me and is like the man I met many years ago, and the next hour a stranger who lives in my home LOL
But love is that way. Take it for all you can enjoy

I was married to my first husband for 17 years and we had 2 kids. I hated that man with my entire being the entire last 14 years of the marriage but wouldn't divorce him because I thought it was better for the kids, which it wasn't, of course. He was a stupid man but played mind games with me to a point where I thought there was something wrong with ME - a person with a 148 IQ!! I finally woke up one morning, decided I had taken all I was gonna, and kicked him out and filed divorce papers the next day. I've been married to my soul mate now for 10 years and we are great together.

18 years and she went beserk.
She's ok now but has a completely different personality than she had for the first 18 years.
We're divorced now. Still friends but I miss the girl I married.

No. With girlfriends in the past though. It happened about 4 times in my life, but usually only after about 1.5 or 2 years.

I was married for 17 years and even though I thought I knew him inside and out, he did surprise me at times. And not the good way.

well not so much 21 yrs ,, but yes I have done that twice now,, first one was 5 yrs and the second one was 2 yrs,, and well I knew what I got this time,, I just hate it now,, maybe I will learn this time...
