Sequoia is a name of an Indian tribe as well as a tree. Sequoia was the name of the Indian who, along with a trapper, invented the Cherokee alphabet. I hope this helps.

I think Sequoia was the half Cherokee who wrote the Cherokee Alphabet. Maybe he was named after a tree. Cherokee often named their children for the first thing they saw after their birth.
