The best paying job driving a truck takes a chance every time they go to work. They work on the "black market" so to speak. Also known as "double over". They only haul loads that are at least twice the legal limit for the roads. The tractors are hand built and modified to have extreme power and the suspensions are completely modified to handle the loads without looking overloaded. These trucks can pull a 9% grade at over 60 mph.!!! I have a friend that does this and he only works about 10 days a month but he may be gone for 3-4 days at a time. But he averages over 200k a year.

Yes, the type of cargo can affect the pay. The more dangerous, the more likely to get higher pay. With a few years experience, you can earn in the 40 to 50 thousand range. As for being home every night, that will depend on the type of driving you do. It is possible although I don't think those drivers make over 50,000. Also, home every night may mean for 8 to 10 hours but at weird times like midday or early evening.

It depends on the company and what you haul.
I pull a flatbed.
I leave out every Sunday night for a Monday delivery, and I am home by 4pm on Friday and I take home around 900-1100 a week after taxes.
I have 4yrs experience.
And I have owned my own truck before too, you take home more, but spend alot more so it equals out mostly between Owner operators and company drivers.
