I need to buy th least expensive computer I can get without buying garbage. The one I have now I paid $1200 about six years ago. I can't spend that, or close, now. What is the cheapest and best brand I can get that would not be worse than the one I have, please don't laugh, I need help.

I agree with most here. I have a number of Dell computers and some others. I've given Dells as gifts to relatives and they are a great value. I also have some HPs and they are good as well but slightly more expensive than Dell when Dells are on sale which is always. I don't like the performance on the AMD semperion but the 64 bit AMD processor is great. The Intel Celeron is fine but do include at least 500Mb of memory. You can get a deal from Dell right now including a monitor for less than $400. They also have credit terms that allow monthly payments. Good luck :)

I would have to agree and say "Dell." They will give you the best deal for the lowest price. It won't be the ultimate gamer's machine, but you can pretty much bet you'll get the most for your money. Good luck!

Anything you buy now-a-days will be better then something that is 6 years old. If you don't have re-buy a monitor... you can get way with a few hundred dollars.

I'd suggest shopping TIGERDIRECT.COM... and look for a re-conditioned e-machine. You can easily get a great one for under 500.00.
