I work 3rd shift, My best friend has stated that she would watch my 6 year old daughter while I'm at work. Here's how this will go down, I'll get my child to bed and asleep by 8:30, I'll leave for work around 10:30pm and I'll get back home around 7:30am.
With school starting all my friend has to do is get her up for school, and make sure she matches.. She's 6, she can get her own breakfast and what not..
Anyway, How much should I pay her to sleep on my couch, Watch tv and play on the internet?
What do you think?
She'll be babysitting Sunday nights thru friday mornings.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am not a babysitter but I do have children who babysit.
Going rate nowadays is minimum wage ($6-$8 per hour) if you can believe that. Personally I won't pay that and I do not encourage my son to charge that.
For one child.. sleeping .. and very little work to do I would think that $3 per hour is a reasonable amount to pay.
OR if you want, you can have your sitter at two rates, a sleeping and awake rate. When your child is sleeping it is $3 and when she is awake (since it is more physical work) pay $4 per hour.
I am a single mom of 3 sons who are now 16, 14 and 10 years of age.

Since your friend has the option of actually sleeping through the night at your place while watching your daughter, I would say $200 a week would be adequate payment.
If you would like your friend to stay awake most of the time she's there, I would increase the payment to about $300 since it would be difficult to work a daytime job as well after not sleeping during the night.
Be sure to keep track of exactly how much you're paying your friend. Childcare for full-time working parents is tax deductable, and your friend will want taxes taken out as well for social security, etc.

I don't feel that their should be a reduced rate just because your daughter will be asleep when your babysitter is there. Your babysitter is responsible for your child during that time. Babysitting is a job and the sitter should be getting at least minimum wage.

about two dollars an hour. She is still taking time out of her life and not being able to sleep in or in her own bed. That is like 120.00 per week. Not bad.

$5 an hour sounds reasonable but Im not a babysitter.

well, im paid by the hour, ($10) but i once had to do the same thing for one of the parents and she paid me $90, which i thought was too much, but she made me take it anyway....why not ask your friend what she wants to be paid? best wishes!:)

the goin rate is 3$ an hr but in ur case since its over nite and she isnt doin anything maybe 2$ an hr will work..i mean she isnt gonna have to do much...

I say if she will be helping herself to your food, couch and internet she should just be happy she has a place to stay and get zip!!!!

if she is living with you then i would not pay her at all but if not then i think between $5.00-$6.00 and hour is fair
