I don't think the newer IUDs make your periods heavier. I've had my iud since february, and I love it. The first few months were a little odd, but it resolved quickly and now I hardly have a period worth mentioning at all. I was on the pill for 12 years, and it's wonderful to not have to think about birth control at all.

depends on the one you have.
Paraguard (hormone free) may increase your bloodflow and you may experience cramping during you period

Mirena (hormonal one) you may experience absence of period and it lesses your blood flow if you do still get one and lessesn cramps

My sister is on Mirena now 1.5 years and she gets her period the same 3 days but its only spotting so the lenght of it should be the same if not less

Ive been on Mirena for 3 years and I havent had a period since then

Talk to your doctor. Remember that every woman is different and it will effect them all different.
