i guess it depends on the line of work you are involved in, not all jobs have access to the internet.

I read an article a few months (can't remember the site) at one of the Business news sites and the estimated loss of productivity was being estimated in excess of $10 billion anually. Complete accuracy is impossible because the people that take the survey are not being completely honest.

I personally doubt there is a decline in the production of a worker due to using online time to goof off, because I have to assume, that who ever would waste company time online while at work, would have wasted company time in other ways if not for the Internet. Some of my co-workers go poop a lot (so they say) and that "could" be a way to cheat the company of time or waste time/get out of work. See? :)

We have strict rules on this at my job. HR is continuously monitoring networks. If caught, we are first disciplined. If caught again, we are fired.
Of course I am answering this question of your's while at work. Shhh!

Its a huge problem at many companies who have not locked down their Internet access to business use. I know of disciplinary action at our state agencies where folks have been dismissed for inappropriate use.
