I'm speaking specifically of economic development in the "developing world" (i.e. poor countries).
Most people would probably agree that economic development is a good thing.
But I am looking for critiques of economic development. Please give me your thoughts if you can think of reasons why development is not always the best thing for a group of people, and list any articles or sources I might consult.

why development is not always the best thing for a group of people? because it's the poor that's not benifitting from the so call 'economic development' the rich gets richer & the poor gets poorer, search the web with the key words economic, development ,GDP, wealth distrubution etc...

When it's unnatural as the economic development in the communist countries , there isn't competition for get the best of anything and supply on demand , people buying not what they want but what they can get : and in the savage capitalist country where the people are considered only as work-force and suckers buyers and not the supreme value of the world , the first thing anyone should invest first .

I am not a professional but if you need an answer just look at what is happening to the rainforest in southamerica in the intrest of economic development.
