I assume you had DSL before. If so then your router will still work. Just move the WAN cable from your DSL router to your Cable Modem.

Since you got the Cable Internet along with a Cable Modem, I am sure it will work. If you want to use your Router ( to connect multiple Computers to the Internet) you will have to use the Software CD that came with it to configure your Modem to recognize your Router and to work with it.

After having done this you will be able to use the Ports of the Router to connect other Ethernet Cables and use them with other Computers.

If the Router that you have is a Wireless Router then configuring it to work with the Cable Modem will give you the option to use Wireless Laptops and other Wireless Handheld Devices. So essentially you will get the option to connect multiple computers to the Internet with a single Cable Connection.

It is basically the Router that allows you to do this. If the Router is a Wired one then you need Ethernet cables to use more than one computer, if it is a Wireless Router than you don't need the Ethernet Cables.

Yes, the router will still work. However, you probably need to change the settings on the router. Your router was probably set to "PPPoE" for your DSL.

Now that you have cable, you PROBABLY want to set your router to "Obtain IP Automatically". But call your Internet Provider to verify this if necessary.
