Yes, it happened, just not exactly the way it says in the Iliad. I mean, we all know that the life of Jesus didn't actually happen like the Bible tells it, but no-one is going to say Jesus never existed. It's the same thing with all old stories, they are based on truth, but get exaggerated over the years.

I do believe the trojan war happened...as well as most of the rest of the world.

The trojan war was once thought of as a myth, a story some old poet wrote up to entertain his masses and earn afew bucks in the process....as well as the fabled city of Troy was thought to be a created location until some german guy stuck in a shovel and pulled out a city. Und Voilla! Troy! He found it, there is proof the city existed.

The cities' close proximity and the nature of their cultures do make it possible that something happened. In the Troy city excavation they did find evidence that a seige in quanity happened And even the Illyiad writes the battle in such detail that it is believed he could have possibly been there and witnessed it as a reporter of sorts.

I can't tell you that all of the details of the story are true, I wasn't there...but I can feel confident that some aspect of the story did happen.

Yes, the Trojan war definately happened. The point that it was fought over a woman is strictly myth. Troy and Greece were major rivals and Agaememnon wanted the world and Troy was there for the taking. Selfish reasons. The Greeks were marvelous story tellers, you just need to get through the excess parts of the story to get to the truth.

Yep, the Trojan War happened. However, it wasn't actually over Helen of Troy. The war was over the trading routes.

I think it did happen, but perhaps the initial reasons for the start of the war were romanticized in Greek literature.

Remember, 200 years ago the city of Troy itself was thought to be a myth, and that was eventually proven wrong.

Yes, I believe it happened. The war happened, probably not the war the "histories" say, but it happened.

As for finding of troy by the german guy, do some more research, he came out and said he faked all the item finds -saying- it was troy.

Troy is likewise reported in Thucydides, The Peloponnesean conflict, e book i. of course, the fundamental subject is that the story would not get written down till approximately 4 hundred years after it occurred. ultimate estimates for the conflict are 1250 BCE; Homer lives interior the 800s BCE, so there's a important term in between. it fairly is shown by ability of countless the errors in Homer's account, to illustrate, the declare that the Greeks and Trojans burned their ineffective on funeral pyres. in actuality, lots of what all of us understand of Troy and different Achaean web content comes from grave shafts -- buried human beings. i think so. But i dont think it was at the time homer suggests, I think it was much, much earlier than that. Schliemann's digs showed the time that homer suggests, and there is evidence of a little war, but earlier, about 2000years earlier, there was a massive war. I think that may have been the trojan war of the story.

I think Greek History is beautifully elaborated pieces of art in literature.

It's all like a huge game of telephone no one ever bothered to write down as a constant or a creed.
