I recently updated from Windows Update to MS Update to get all the needed updates in one place. I had a small glitch where I could not close out of the MS Update Site Window after the update was completed. (IE foze on me.) My system is spyware/virus free and runs great. Could this be an issue with the site? Has anyone else had this issue when converting from Windows Update to MS Update? What's the difference between Windows Update and MS Update? BTW I have my updates set to automatic.

I switched from Windows Update to Microdoft Update a year or so ago and haven't had any problems. Microsoft offers updates for all Microsoft products and Windows doesn't. If you are using Internet Explorer 6, I suggest you switch to Internet Explorer 7. I used to have a lot of problems with IE 6 freezing but since I switched to IE 7 it hasn't happened. I will post the download link below in case you are interested. If you don't like it you can just uninstall it and revert back to IE 6. I like IE 7 much better than IE 6.

Glitches on the Internet and in Internet Explorer are common. They were even worse in the old days of dial up only. To handle this the data packets have check sums at the end of them. If the check sum doesn't add up then the computer asks to have that data package re-sent. I don't know why IE froze on you, but it would have made sure, even after a full reboot, that you got the right data packets. So your updates aren't screwed up.

MS Update IS Windows update. I had shortcuts to both of them on my machine and they both lead to the same website. Currently I have set the Windows OS to update itself. I don't bother going to the site anymore. I have been there a few times, but I have all the updates already. When it automatically updates itself it might want to go through a reboot though and it will be annoying about it..

Currently I use Windows 2000 and I have been working with Windows since version 3.1. My computer has downloaded many updates and I haven't had a problem with Windows from updates. If you have it on automatic then don't worry about MS Update, just forget it and delete the shortcut. If you go to Microsoft's home page there will be links that will send you where you need to go if you have to manually download an update. When you go to MS Update the website automatically quizzes your machine to see if it is up to date, and it will tell you so.

This used to happen to me also. It was solved once I went to the HP(I have a Compaq) and update all the drivers. An outdated Video driver is the most common reason for this problem. You might have to go the Board mfgr for the most current non-beta driver.
