Coryogryph is right on his legal definitions, I just wanted to add that suing for harrassment/slander/being a pain in the *** is very hard to prove in court, and to sue you have to have damages.
Can you prove monetary loss because of their actions?????
This is the one thing most people don't realize in civil court, you have to show a direct loss because of the action of the defendant. AND.... most attorneys will want a retainer up front, I'd guess $10,000 to go to court for a civil trial. You pay that and then wait to see if you win. Better off playing poker in Vegas!

Absolutely. The Boad of Directors are responsible and can be held accountable. I would start with a certified letter to the non-profits board of directors for cease and desist. If that did't work, first call the police and report it. Second call your attorney a civil lawsuit. The key in any lawsuit is "have you been damaged?"

A non-profit corporation can be sued, because it is a separate legal entity.
A non-profit assocation that is not a corporation generally cannot be sued, because it has no independent existence. Like a partnership. In that case, you have to sue the people involved directly.

Your son's skin protection or lack of it, at the age of 9, may legally be your responsibility as his parent. You would probably have signed some kind of permission for him to go on this field trip that would have absolved the non-profit from liability for not providing or applying sunblock.
