No way. I don't have to lose you to know how precious you are to me.

Hmmmm . . . how do YOU feel about this saying? I put that saying in with the one that says; Why is the object that you are looking for always in the last place you look?
These are called fallacies. There is no right or wrong answer, and there is no true or false answer. Depending on what it is that you have lost, you may care more about it if it can not be replaced.
For instance, if you have a favorite bracelet that was given to you by a dear friend who has moved away. The bracelet is a way for you to feel closer to that friend. However, if you accidentally break the bracelet or lose it, and you possess no other items that would trigger fond memories of the time that you and your friend spent together, then the question you ask about the saying, would be one that you may use.
Another example is where adult-children move away from home to attend college out of the State. Adult children were used to having a roof over their head, food in the refrigerator, electricity and car insurance. Now, the children are responsible for the things that their parents did for them. It is a way for us to express how much we value the little things in life.
I truly hope that the knowledge I have shared will be of value to you.

Yup. Like this one time, our electricity was cut, and we had to last the whole night without an AC. That was a horrible night. Now I know what it was like spending the night in the Superdome during Katrina.

Yeah. I like the song from the late 90s, 'Sucks to be You' by Prozzak. That really sums up that feeling of opening your eyes too late. But what is interesting about it is that you actually don't really really know what you have lost until a long time after, when you are on the receiving end of something similar to what you dished out. It doesn't happen right after you lose something or someone, it happens ages later. This just tells us how much of a time lag there is between our immediate experiences and any kind of objective understanding of those experiences.
"Sucks To Be You"
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know, I know
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know it's true
I'm a bastard if it's true
If the thing she did to me
Is what I did to you
I'm a bastard if it's true
And I guess it's true
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know, I know
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know it's true
You need to know I finally understand
And I gotta get in touch with you now
But I can't
I just want to tell you I'm sorry
I'm a bastard if it's true
If the thing she did to me
Was what I did to you
I'm a bastard if it's true
And I guess it's true
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know, I know
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know it's true
You need to know I finally understand
And I gotta get in touch with you now
But I can't
I wish I could have made you happy
But I'm a bastard
I'm not saying that I wanted you to stay
But tonight I feel like driving my car to LA
Just so you can see me crying
Cause I'm a bastard if it's true
Yeah and I guess it's true
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know it's true
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know, I know
[Tamara] - Sucks To Be You
[Simon] - I know it's true

Yes, and I call it is life as simple as it is.I urge everyone enjoys what you have not what you want. Life is short and You have to learn how to smell roses and coffee every morning. You only have this moment and it is now, and not tomorrow or yesterday.

well totally true. Then they realize what they had and they want it back, yet they are stupid enough not to change what they were doing wrong, so they lose it forever.
