It's called Flouride Emulsion that has been enriched with oxygen. Even though they have proved it can be done, most of the test subjects that tried oxygenated flouride emulsion had very serious side effects, some even died.

No. It'd kill you.
Liquid oxygen is extremely cold, and would freeze your trachia, as you inhaled. In addition, higher levels of atmospheric pressure (ie. underwater) pure oxygen becomes poisonous, because it is excreted into the blood, and can lead to hemoragging of the brain, eyes or other organs. That is why scuba divers do not fill their tanks with pure oxygen. They use "air" which has nitrogen, helium and hydrogen in the same proportions as the air we breathe on the surface.
So, no, you cant use liquid oxygen for breathing.

User Matta is correct. It is called "Liquid Ventilation it is a technique of mechanical ventilation in which the lungs are insufflated with an oxygenated perfluorochemical liquid rather than an oxygen-containing gas mixture. Has more medical applications at this time than anything else.

We can breathe liquid enriched with oxygen. Liquid has to be isotonic (it has to be similar to our body liquids). We could breathe saline enriched with oxygen.
So why don't we? We still can't figure out how to dry our lungs after breathing in a liquid... Saline would mix with alveolar liquid -surfactant. And that's bad, cuz if you want to breathe the air again, surfactant now, mixed with liquid, wouldn't work right. And your lungs would collapse, you'd suffocate breathing the air.

It has been a long time since I have seen that movie, but I thought it had something to do with simulating amniotic fluid. I don't know if it's true or not, but they say when we are a fetus in the womb we have "gills" to breathe. It is said that in autopsies they have found the scars in the neck that look like gills that have healed. Again, don't know if it's true or not, so nobody go crazy. Just something I heard or read.

No. Our lungs are mean to handle oxygen in the form of a gas liquids are far too heavy for ThAT organ.

Movies are fake.. sorry.
Liquid oxygen has a density of 1140 kg/m³ and is moderately cryogenic (freezing point: â219 °C, boiling point: â183 °C).

It is my understanding that the military has been testing "water breathing" for quite some time. It is probably possible.
