My cousin who lives far away in KY went into labor and had a baby? Why Is she introuble now for smoking marijuana all of the sudden? Could The hospital have drug tested her becuase she was on welfare? I am upset becuase I did not know she smoked at all!

they would have tested the baby and since it is against the law and what she has done could severely impaired that baby for life she could be in trouble , doesn't matter where she lives as long as she is in the U.S."Its illegal", and the baby has to pay for moms dumb judgment and mistakes , thats just to sad

If your cousin was pregnant and smoking pot then she deserves all of the trouble she is in. She could have hurt the baby. It sounds like she might not be mature enough to handle a child at this point in her life. She will probably have to go through parenting classes, counseling and possibly rehab before she can get her child back. But it will not be impossible for her if she is serious about it. well thank God for newborns and the idiot savants who give birth to them!!! Fortunately...just because you have a baby does not make you an adult....every baby once it is born goes through a gamut of tests to include drug screening....we screen newborns for drugs to save them from unfit parents....if you are irresponsible enough to do drugs while your are pregnant what makes society think you can care for the baby properly.... which adoption agency is she using because obviously this young lady is to immature to know thatthis unborn well now born child has a voice although unspoken we the public speak for the child and think the baby needs to be in a better fit home!!!! What the hell is wrong with america today...smoking dope and doing drugs while an innocent life is in a womb unable to say wether they chose to get high or not? Are you flipping kidding me...then again saying Kentucky answers the question you inbred redneck idiot savants.....got news for ya...i am an ER nurse in South florida and if that was the test results that female would never see that baby again, thank goodness! But because you are in the Bible belt of the south your cousin will probably get to keep this innocent abused life thus far and continue to abuse it! such a sad case....but then again hell Alla actually this baby would probably have a better life with Al Quaijda, then a gosh darn teen mother smoking dope!!! ALL NEWBORNS ARE DRUG TESTED IT IS A FEDERAL LAW......EVERY NEWBORN IN THE UNITED STATES IS DRUG TESTED!!!!!!!!! WAKE UP WHITE PEOPLE....My goodness it is a basic test just like a PKU test when babies are born in case you need help...PKU (jaundice levels) Urea and potassium with Calcium buildups

Well considering marijuana is illegal thats #1 why she got in trouble... #2 if she was smoking it while she was pregnant it could have effected the baby.... so maybe something was wrong with the baby and thats why they tested and found out... I know I had a ton of blood tests for each pregnany and they test for drugs also...

Was she tested at some time during her pregnancy? I've heard that the laws now require such testing, due to updated prenatal care. Maybe she was but didn't mention it.
Either way she should have known better than to smoke pot while she was pregnant.
I am so sorry for the baby, maybe there won't be any long term effects.

They do blood tests on both mom and baby after childbirth. Shame on her for smoking anything during her pregnancy.
There's nothing you can do - hopefully the hospital will talk some sense into her. She's going to need to be more responsible now that she's a mother.

She should not have been doing drugs of any kind, even something as innocent as marijuana, while pregnant. That's just selfish, putting her own desires & wants before the baby's!

they do not drug test you cause your on welfare, they can't! did she do it before she had it? There had to be a reason that they drug tester her.

you should have checked up on your fam!
who knows if the baby will have a birth defect mentally or if the state will take away her baby altogether...
its really very sad ..
