good question!!!!! I am going to try to answer it.....cuz it's a money making thing for the movie theatre. i worked at a movie theatre once back in boston and most of their sales come from concession. I dont like to eat in the movie cuz i want to focus on the movie and i dont like other people eating in there either as it is not quiet like it should be. before i left, the theatre i was working in in boston opened up a restaurant right next to the movie. they had ownership of that, as well....it makes more sense to have a big meal at a restaurant or even a snack and then go see the movie. They would, also benefit opening up a child care place that is open during the movie theatre's hours to just drop off your kid there...you know how much $ they would make??? tons!!!!

Advertising my brother works at a movie theatre, when there's nothing showing on the screen. When you first walk in to see a movie all that's on the screen is a single kernel of popped popcorn, so you seat there staring at it, till you can't take it no more, and you go get yourself a bucket of popcorn with extra BUTTER. LOL

Movie theaters like to sell it because:
1) It is enormously profitable. The popcorn in a four-dollar cup costs them about three cents -- much less than the cup itself.
2) It doesn't make noise when people eat it -- unlike chips or pretzels.
3) It is very salty -- which makes people get thirsty and buy more soda (which is also enormously profitable).

It's just not the same without popcorn.
It's like going to the ballpark and not having a hot dog.

Actually, I don't know. I guess it's just a good snack to eat quick and that's easy to make. Good question. I'm not really sure, but I like to eat it at the movies.

You are not really interested in the movie. In these situation, you will be nervously awaiting the 120 mins of the movie, sit quiet. And biologically, eating something, you will be more calm(or at all, if you are full up of corn)
