Purchasing a pet chameleon should involve researching the species, looking at photos, and finding a reputable breeder. These stunning animals are often kept in captivity. However, they are definitely not for the beginners. They easily get stressed and their keeping requirements are rather specific. They do not tolerate frequent handling. If you want to be able to handle an animal, consider another kind.

A healthy captive bred lizard should be active and bright, capable of changing colors.

It goes without saying that you cannot expect the friendliness of a dog from this creature. The veiled species is most commonly kept in houses. It needs a fairly large enclosure and good care.

These reptiles are astounding creatures, however, there are doubts as to whether it is wise to keep them at home. They are certainly not for the person who has never had exotic animals in his or her home. The requirements of these reptiles are quite specific, and they can be easily stressed.

I actually have a veiled chameleon...he was very easy to get ahold of...most petstores that handle reptiles either have them avail or can get them. I went through Pet Co and despite things some people say, they DO have healthy reptiles. Honestly, Little Dragon(which I named him) is very easy to take care of. He is very sociable and lives off of crickets. I am feeding mine large crickets now and he gets about 2 dozen 2-3 times a week..... watering is the only difficult part because they cannot drink out of a water bowl....they cant see the water moving and can actually drown....

One thing you can do is set up the reptile waterfall that most pet stores have avail. If you go that route, make sure you put vines or sticks over the bottom of it, so that your chameleon doesnt drown... I have a sprayer that i use for mine currently. it is used mainly in gardens but you just pump it up and spray. it seems to work very well actually.

Hope this helps.
