Paul Gaustad is Hott!:
Well I would agree that the purpose of the U.N. was a good idea. But they have become worthless. I think perhaps you need to do a little more research on what they have accomplished. For instance, I beleive the Geneva convention was NOT created by the U.N. I believe it was concieved by... the GENEVA CONVENTION!!!1 But i'm not sure.. I'd have to look that one up. As for all the other sanctions it puts on countries.. that's all well and good, but since they don't impose any penalties for breaking those sanctions what good are they? Look at Iraq. How many years did Hussein ignore the security council, and how long did the security council do nothing. Long enough that the U.S. went to the U.N. and said, "If you don't... we will." They didn't... we did.

From what I understand, the UN building is US property. Since we are members and co-founders of the UN, we host the headquarters, voluntary.
So, to answer your question, no.

Do you even attempt to comprehend the positive implications of a global body meeting and promoting a cleaner environment, more open trade and communication, and general peace among all the countries of the world? The UN operates the International Court of Justice, which tries war criminals who would otherwise have been made to go free. It implicated the Kyoto Protocol, under which party nations have pledged to lower their pollusive emissions by hundreds of tons per year. It issued the International Declaration of Human Rights, which set a unanimously agreed upon global standard for the treatment of all human beings in all situations, giving special protection to mothers and children; the breaking of the rules outlined in the Declaration are punishable under INTERNATIONAL Law, which means economically crippling sanctions or trial in the ICJ for perpetrators. The Geneva Convention was issued by the United Nations in order to protect the rights of prisoners of war as human beings, and just recently the United States was forced to come into accord with this piece of legislature in the case of the treatment of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Now, George Bush, he's not paying any rent, so perhaps he could be evicted?

And does anyone else who owns a building pay rent? No.
Now, if you want to talk about New York exercising power of eminent domain, and seizing the property owned by the UN for the public good, that would be a different story.

Certainly. UN officials and staff are paid with very high salaries. If they can afford such salary scale, they can surely pay their host governments equally high rental.
Remember, the UN budget comes from taxpayers all over the world including those from the developing countries....

I think that the UN's hostile stance towards the US is enough reason to evict them. They are constantly after our sovereignty. The statue in front of their building clearly is an affront to our 2nd amendment. If they don't like us we should just quit and kick them out.

There are a lot of other country’s that would love to host the UN, and give the current xenophobic attitude of many American’s i would guess that many of the member states would be only too happy to move.
Treat it as an honour not a duty.

They should have moved on years ago. Some other country should have to put up with their diplomatic immunity for a while.
