spend 3 hours of getting quality work and using the rest of the day to learn about other things that life has to really offer instead of being place in a structured, controlled environment all day?

do you mean homeschooling?
This is exactly what homeschooling offers.
All states have different laws about the 'time' you are to spend doing homeschool. In my state it's 4 1/2 hrs a day.
Lots of people say that kids don't really even get THAT MUCH actual learning time in public schools.
BUT there is no law on WHAT you are suppose to teach (for my state at least), so it's left up to the parent.
The structured controlled environment is exactly why some people do homeschool instead of public school.
It's hard to give a definate answer to your question cause each family has different needs and values. So what you think is right won't be right to someone else.
I can understand the reason you ask this question though, to get different viewpoints before you make a decision.
Good for you !!

Which is better? Letting your child socialize with children his own age and learn about real life? Or completely controlling his every waking moment?
