4-H is a great way to go if you want to learn more about a horse. You'll be able to show, go to workshops and conventions, etc etc. Its a great organization, I was in it for 10 years, and I now help with out my local 4-H members. I currently have 3 horses, 2 buckskins, and one white spot. I've had around 15 total, they're great.

I'll just give you a bunch of facts that may come in useful:
A horses danger zones are straight in font and in back.A horse can only see things in focus when they are 4 feet or further in front of him. When approaching a horse come to him from the sides and talk to him so he knows your there.never feed your horse a lot of treats or rich foods because this can make him colic. Some symptoms of colic are excessive rolling, itching it's sides, and excessive yawning. If your horse colics keep him up and walking and have someone else call a vet and keep walking him til the vet comes. In cold weather rub your bit with your hands to keep it from stinging your horse's mouth.Always pick out your horses hooves before riding him.have your horse's teeth floated ( filing of the sharp edges of teeth)once a year by your vet . A good way to find out more is to search for questions about horses on Yahoo answers.Oh and 1 hand equals 4 inches and a horse has to be at least 14 hands and 3 inches to be a horse. Any thing under that is considered a pony. Good Luck showing you horse and I hope my answer was helpful!

I have 2. A thoroughbred mare that's 15.2 and a chestnut with 1 sock, one anclet, and a strip on her face. And my arab. He isn't really mine but i call him that because this old lady owns him and has come out like 5 times in the past 3 months to see him and he isn't going anywhere anytime soon. But anyway he is 14.2 i think just short enough to be a pony. He really isn't though. Arabs can be shorter then 14.3 and still be horses but i call him a pony anyway. He is bay with a strip. no socks. My thoroughbreds name is rosie. Rosie loves to jump and go on trail rides. She gos to shows every month and lessons twice a week. Izzy (my arab) is the master of trails (thats what we call him). There will be something totally scarey that will make the other horse jump and run but he will just keep walking like nothing is wrong. My mom can ride him and he's 5. Just a little guy. But so sweet. I love them both.

I have a horse. He's a red dun dwarf Appaloose and his name's Sherman. He lives in New York right now but I'm getting money to bring him over to the state I'm in now. He likes pickles. He can untie a triple knot, un-latch gates, and ring the doorbell when he's hungry. I've had him for five years and since I got him as a baby this is the longest I've been away from him(two months).

I can't get a horse since I live in the city. :-( But I really want an Arabian. I LOVE horses. A trakhaner would be cool also. Lippizaners are so cool. They are bred in Hungary/Austria which is neat since we live Hungary! Keep on loving horses!
