Pluto still exists, it's just redefined. I think it is a bit silly to get over-excited about it. I am a teacher and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach my students that, A) we don't know everything, and B) what we think we know can still change, textbooks are just a guide to thinking! Change is usually a good thing. Anyway, that is just my humble opinion.

But it is a good thing that we, as a society, are figuring this out now because we have never had an official defination of a planet. This allows us to explore space and figure out if the object is a planet or a large ball of rocks.
