By jumping in the cat's mouth, chewing itself, digesting itself, and not saying a word to your cat except would you like dessert with that sir or madam!

This is a tough question for someone else to answer. A hamster has to have a cage which requires maintenance, a significantly shorter lifespan and potentially less of a companion. (I don't mean anything against hamsters but they are limited to a cage and your direct proximity to keep them contained.) Cats on the other hand live quite a bit longer, need to be fixed, and maybe a litter box to empty. Personally, I'd get a cat with no questions asked simply because I like their independence, personalities, and the fact that they can curl up on the bed at night.

If this is meant as a joke its not funny-if you are allowing your cat to eat the hamsters for she couldn't if she couldn't get at the hamster then according to the NEW Law you'd be found guilty of animal abuse and fine or even the very real possibility of being jailed-if you're a kid your parents will have to pay the fine-several Thousand Dollars and you can go to Juvenile-kids go to jail too.if they break the law. Its a cats natural instinct to hunt, eat small animals like mice, hamsters, gerbils birds and so on. Hamsters are sold as PETS and NOT FOOD. It is very rare for a cat Not to try and kill eat these small animals and suppose the judge asked you why'd this happened you saying you thought they'd get along doesn't cut it for EVERYONE knows cats hunt animals smaller than they -even squirrels who are much bigger than a hamster.

Oh yes a hamster can be very friendly towards a cat. Cats however express their affection rather differently than hamsters might. I have not yet seen one dance.

Unless you have an unusually calm cat who lacks hunting instinct, he probably will eat them (as you've discovered). Most cats think the same way about hamsters as they do mice- DINNER! I'd suggest playing it safe and keeping the hamster in its cage or hamster ball when your cat is around.

No way! Don't ever put your hamster with a cat unless you want a dead pet in about 5 minutes.

When you consider that hamsters are rodents, no wonder your Kitty ate him. That's what cats DO.

I have heard of cats and rodents being buddies but I wouldn't EXPECT that behavior to just magically happen. I'm not sure that I would have brought a SECOND hamster home after Kitty had eaten the first one ("Thanks for second helpings, Mom!").

Good luck.

Maybe if you put the hamster in the ball 1st and let them smell each other. However, most likely your cat might not like other small creatures.

Actually, hamsters have no sense of fear. That's why they don't mind walking off the shelf their cage is on when you forget to close the door.

when we used to have hamsters, we would put them in those ball type of cages. and the cat and dog would bat them around. it was hillarious and we never had a death.
