American basketball players play for themselves and the team from Greece played like a team - how many times can we not defend the pick and roll? Americans only care about scoring points and slam dunks and they never develop skills like shooting free throws or defense -

"we"? Anyway, take a college coach (these are pros...hello!?), overrated players (face it, these guys can't shoot worth crap and play to the ESPN SportsCenter dunk-a-lites) and no big man. You'd be singing a different tune if Shaq or Duncan was on that team.
Look, Wade, LeBron and 'Melo to some extent were beyond great. The problem is you cannot have other guys who don't know how to play D or get jumpshots off in transition.
Europeans--oh, puhleeeeze! It's not a Euro vs. American thing. Hell, Kobe learned to play in Europe as his dad was based there and he's still as selfish pr*ck.
Latin Americans can ball and so can Canadian Steve Nash. These things go in cycles. It's a good thing the USA don't waltz thru these competitions anymore as in 1992. If the USA dominated the WCs and Olys it'd be boring and the sport would die. Be thankful basketball is getting better worldwide and maybe it can knock stupid soccer off the map some day.

The ego could have something to do with the bronze. But I think here's what happened with this team:
-They haven't played as a team for a long time. Other teams have been together for a longer period of time, and have built better chemistry because of it.
-They didn't have enough shooters. They had great athletes who could take it to the bucket, but not enough pure shooters who could know down an open jumper.
-They couldn't defend the pick-and-roll. Greece milked their inability to defend that play, and won the game as a result.
I still think that the addition of 1 or 2 pure shooters, along with more 'together' time, will benefit team USA.

In America we play by different rules, our national team doesn't meet all year around and compete, and American players are well known (everyone knows their style, preferences, weaknesses, and strengths). America doesn't suck (bronze medal), it just has a difficult time reaching it's potential when the players main objective is the NBA Championship throughout the year.

It would have helped to have more shooters on this team. The biggest problem related to shot selection. I have never believed that you keep shooting until you make something (bad judgment). When your shots (long outside ones) are not falling go inside more.
Does anyone remember what happened to Dallas Mavericks? If you live by the jump shot you die by the jump shot or 3pt. shot (same thing).

Umm, I don't really agree with that. The players don't get to mesh together long enough
