I have a 20+ year old Stallion and have recently purchased a mare she is pregnant with the Stallions foal and is due soon. When she came in estrus, the first time the Stallion jumped through the barbwire fence to get to her. Now he has a fit when ever they are separated. I was told that a Stallion will kill a foal and I don't want that to happen. Any suggestion on how to calm him?

I have owned rode and cared for him the Stallion for over 17 years. He is part of our family. We haven't experienced any difficulties with the Stallion until the mare was introduced just last year.

The mare will do anything to keep her foal alive. Maybe you could keep the stallion in a stall while the mare is out. Then put the mare in a stall while the stallion is out. Or else keep them in separate fields far away.

Stallions killing foals is a very popular rumor. It's very unlikely that he would care but most mares prefer to be on their own so you should look into finding a way to separate them for the first few days. Good luck

I know a breeder that keeps the stallion, mares and foals together. But all the babies are from that stallion.
They all get along fine.
You can keep the stud in a stall.

Put the stallion in a proper stallion box, where he can't see out. And put her as far away as you can get her...preferably on the other side of the barn, DOWNWIND of him. Maybe it would be a good move to send the mare to a foaling facility?

I would contact a vet, short of that I would move him away. Board him out until you can take control. A better fence also might work. The scent drives them crazy. Sort of like some men.

With all due respect, if you didn't know what you were taking on, why did you buy a stallion?
A mare comes into oestrus, not estrus.
Sorry to be of no further help but folks like you drive me insane...

Kick his ***,,,,,,,,,, An undisciplined stallion near here recently killed a six year old child....... Before you Bambi nuts go off on me, remember.... Stallions fight for the right to breed in the natural world.. This stallion is undisciplined and dangerous..
Get rid of this stud to someone who knows what they are doing, before someone gets killed.

as soon as she has that baby she will come into heat again
(foal heat) are you planning to breed her again? if you do be sure to keep the baby out of the way, that's how babies get hurt
