1. Put some water on the hole in the rubber stopper.
2. You may also put some water on the thermometer.
3. Wrap the rubber stopper with a cloth or a rubber glove or a paper towel.
4. Hold the wrapped rubber stopper in one hand with the top of the rubber stopper facing toward you. Do not cover the hole with your hand.
5. Insert the thermometer and with a gentle twisting motion, "screw" the thermometer into the hole until it is in the position that you want.

The accepted method is to lubricate the thermometer with water, wrap it and the stopper in several layers of cloth and carefully insert it straight into the stopper without twisting it. Do not use anything other than water to lubricate the thermometer because greases or other lubricants can contaminate your experiment.

lubricate the thermometer...then push through the rubber stopper...after that wipe off the lubricant and ur finished :) that is the safest way :)

dont push the end with your palm or supposedly it can go straight through your hand.

just twist the thermometer into the stopper

put on a pair of latex (nitrile if allergic) gloves.....
lube meter with whatever ya got,,,,oil, petroleum, surgilube, spit,,,etc....
hold stopper in weak hand and meter in other....
center aim into hole,,,,,,,push hard, and follow straight thru.
