Why do some parents give their babies a bottle to fall asleep?
Don't they know how damaging this is to their teeth?
Can't they see that they are teaching their babies to depend on eating to fall sleep, or are they just too lazy and don't care?
Does this annoy anyone else?

I ask this question because I just wonder if parents really think about the concequences. I just saw ANOTHER child in my dentist office getting a root canal at age 5. Rotting baby teeth will still affect perminant teeth!

I understand how tough it can be to get babies to go to sleep, and this seems like the only solution....but it annoys me too. Bottle rot is not fun, there's a kid in my oldest son's class that had metal caps on all his teeth due to bottle rot. His mother let him sleep with a bottle of milk or juice every night, and his teeth disintegrated. I value my teeth, a lot. So therefore I've helped save my kids' teeth and taught them to value theirs as well. Having rotten teeth makes for a terrible impression upon people. It's my one pet peeve that I can't overlook is proper dental hygeine. My kids brush and floss twice a day and neither has ever had a cavity. I'll be 29 in January, and I've NEVER had a cavity either. Okay, I'm done bragging. ;)

Because despite what some doctors and rude people say, some babies need the comfort the bottle givesthem to fall asleep. My kids and grand kids wear all nursed to sleep or given a bottle to fall asleep, and only one has bad teeth, and that's because he was on antibiotics while those teeth were forming. if it sooths the baby, who cares, as long as the child isn't given soda pop, or sweetened juices .

i have 2 kids, 3 and 2, and never once did they go to bed with a bottle. i agree with you, its very bad for them and does teach them some bad habits too. you would probably be surprised to hear what people do with their kids, they dont always use their heads, im amazed some people even have kids, but thats a whole other story there, i wont go there. back to the pt.,, it does seem that people are lazy, dont want to take the time to rock their kids or sing to them sleep. to me, that was one of my favorite times with them...its faster and easier and they dont have to listen to the cries, its instant gratification for child and parent, thats why so many people do it, sad for sure.
why are people so rude??i guess its a cover for their stupidity. and even though babies dont have teeth, ask the dentist or pediatrician, bottles in bed are bad.

i totally agree every parent should take children off the bottle around one year thats when a pediatrician will recommend anyway. Its just laziness the parents don't want to hear the crying instead of whats best for the child.

why not worry about your own children and let the other parents do what they think is best.
why don't you become a pediatrician so your opinion will really matter
some people don't have time to be a perfect mother. we are just dealing with the cards we are dealt. if a bottle comforts the child, then give him a freaken bottle. as long as its water or unsweetened, who cares.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with giving a baby a bottle to go to sleep with as long as it is water.
